These fashion shows are a lot of fun and giving me a great opportunity for networking, LIVE plus, this time, I got to wear one of my favorite colors, pink!
Here I am at the 4th Annual Runway for a Cure DC Fashion Show a breast cancer awareness event with entertainment and vendors. It has a special meaning in my heart because it’s for women and men affected by breast cancer.
Naturally, I learned from my last fashion show that I couldn’t take pictures, so I didn’t bring my camera. Well wouldn’t you know it, people were allowed to take pictures with their cell phones. I’m so glad that my iPhone is so much a part of me that I’m naked without it.
My rule is to always purchase a ticket that gives me front row seating and a swag bag. That is the hottest ticket.
The models were professional and some were breast cancer survivors which I thought was cool. They did so well. I didn’t find out until later that they were survivors. There were kids who seemed very comfortable with the crowds. I would have been so nervous.
The featured models of the event were The Silver Fox Squad. This is a group of men with good looks, salt & pepper beards, or hair that look good in every outfit they modeled. Lots of winks, big smiles and that Idris Elba body type. OMG! They had the women screaming like mad. At one point I thought that stage is so low, and those of us sitting in the front row seats are going to dart up on the runway. LOL!
Unlike the last fashion show I attended, this one had vendors selling merchandise, but I stayed away because I knew if I went to that area I would certainly buy something. I was keeping my credit card in my pocket.
There was so much love in the ballroom. Families, friends, and fellow survivors all sharing stories of the good and bad times but mostly the main theme was recovery and a cancer-free focus.
The brightest light in the room was everyone was wearing something pink, shoes, outfits even hair color. It felt like total unity, and I was feeling empowered to know that my ticket purchase helped support this cause. It’s important to support causes that you feel passionate about because they always need our help on any level.
The only hiccup was the hotel couldn’t accommodate all the attendees that wanted to do valet parking because there was another sold out event on site. They eventually limited it to hotel guests only parking as soon as I got to the front of the line. So, I found myself circling the block to find a space and I got lucky.
The highlight of the event there was a woman that when I asked to take a picture of her lovely shoes and gave her my card, she said, “Mz. Donna, I follow you on Instagram.” I almost started crying because it validated my existence as an influencer. Thank you, Patrice Finney, @patricemodelandsings I will never forget.
On my drive home all I could think about was, I had fun and this Influencer gig could go places, and I’m certainly going to see so many bad ass shoes and meet the women who wear them.
Until next time! ~ Mz. D💗nna 👠
