Ever since my daughter moved to Frederick, Maryland she has been bragging about her neighborhood shopping boutiques. It’s only a few blocks with boutiques and eating establishments like; vintage consignment shops, street art seating restaurants on the streets and rooftops, and many small local businesses to support. It’s only a short ride so my granddaughter and I decided to take advantage of her offer to be our own private tour guide and drove down to visit her.
We arrived bright and early on a beautiful sun shiny day and my daughter’s smiling face to greet us. Our first stop was a coffee & cafe shop, Beans and Bagels owned by a guy from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania my hometown. There was massive Steelers stuff everywhere decorating the walls including a sign that read, ‘You are in the home of a very loyal Steelers Fan, cheer accordingly or keep it to yourself’! OMG, I’m home!!
You will always find lots of treasurers in small shops unlike malls or department stores.
Shopping in Small Communities
I love small shopping communities because they give you that intimate flavor where everyone is family and knows your name. That was totally on display because everywhere we went, they all knew my daughter. All the shops were small and intimate like in someone’s living room. You will always find lots of treasurers in small shops unlike malls or department stores. Where they have 20 of one item.
OK, let the shopping begin! The vintage shops were some of the best that I have ever seen together all in one place. Small rural communities tend to have generations of treasury items to donate or consign out.
My favorite was Select Seconds Hospital Thrift Shop, the name itself is a treasurer. Lots of crystal wine & champagne glasses priced modestly and an overwhelming number of selections. Dishes, platters, mirrors, furniture, jewelry, baby clothes, pillows, shoes and even nick-nack’s that I remember seeing in my grandmother’s house that were all in good condition. Racks of clothes for women and men so nice, neat, and easy for you to search through. I had to pace myself from buying so much all at once because I was just getting started. My rule is you look, and then you buy.
Lunch time was near, and my daughter chose a restaurant that had menu selections for all our tastebuds. Wags Restaurant reminded me of a Cheers style restaurant where food, drinks, and staff are the ambiance that make it perfect for afternoon lunch with family. We ordered a little bit of everything and ate out of each other plates while laughing and talking the entire time. Everything was delicious and large portions. Our waitress was so attentive and never let us want for anything. I made sure we left her a good tip for her good service.
Our next stop was a walk on the beautiful Chesapeake and Ohio Canal that was lined with shops, benches, archways and yes, orange fish swimming in the Canal. I had never seen that before. AMAZING!
Then it was off to the street art, and I couldn’t resist taking lots of pictures.
My surprise shop was The Original Popcorn House. I eat popcorn every day and my daughter knew I would go crazy buying and tasting popcorn.
A Variety of Clothing and Vintage Jewelry
Our next shops were the ones that bought the old credit card out of my wallet. Zebop was full of unique and funky prints (something like tie dye ) that made me want to buy one of everything they had.
Sky’s the Limit had a combination of clothes, and vintage jewelry with beautiful stones like Amber, Turquoise, and my favorite Lapis. Their Silver jewelry collection was outstanding.
We had so much fun shopping and talking with the salespersons. They even started following me on Instagram right in the store.
Our last stop was Velvet Lounge which is not a lounge but a boutique that carries clothes, accessories, and yes shoes. The young salesperson, Whitney caught our eye immediately with her necklaces that my granddaughter couldn’t stop talking about. They too had lots of one-of-a-kind selections that drew ohs & ahs. Whitney was sweet enough to also start following me on Instagram.
What a great afternoon! We returned to my daughter’s apartment and separated all our purchases to prepare for the trip back.
I am so impressed with Frederick, Maryland, its landscape, shopping, and small-town atmosphere. It’s the perfect example that there are big things in little packages and never count a small community out when it comes to shopping and having a good time. I’m already planning my next visit and once I got home I realized that there are a few things that I’ll be ordering online.
I shall return Frederick, Maryland!!!
When I got the gist of this Influencer game, I thought oh hell no! I just found my second act in life. Hosting a blog will allow me to bring you all the goodies that I know about shoes. Giving you style tips, educating you on how to have an eye for shoes, and be a positive critic of the fashion trends.
