This weekend I attended my first fashion show as my Donna Loves Shoes’ influencer brand. My day started off excited and changing my outfit in my head about twenty times. This is the problem you have when you have too many clothes and shoes. Let’s not ignore that we have all been in Covid casual attire, working from home and no real reason to get dressed up. I miss getting cute and putting on lipstick again!!!
Metamorphosis Timeless Beauty Fashion Show, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC, was first on my list of networking in the fashion industry. Never attending a fashion show with networking in mind I really didn’t know how to prep mentally. I knew I wanted take pictures of shoes for my social media accounts and introduce Donna Loves Shoes by attending fashion shows and extending my approach into more brick-and-mortar events. So, I packed my personality, Donna Loves Shoes business cards, camera and off I went.
Being a rookie, it never occurred to me that I couldn’t take pictures. NO PHOTO TAKING ALLOWED IN THE BALLROOM. Dah, Ugh!
The Shining Star
Little did I know how exciting it was going to be entertained by a fashion review produced by the one and only Harvey Star Washington that included designers, furs, good music and shoes that I would go crazy for. I see why his name has Star in it because he was just that as our host and master of ceremony.
The models were diverse, beautiful, all ages and included children who gave the show an extra excitement for me personally. The models had on some of the best shoes in the entire ballroom and I was going crazy not being able to take pictures of them. My event program will be a good resource for me to contact the designers and shop owners to get photos and more information. My VIP seating allowed me to have a front row seat with a group of women that created their own cheering section for all the outfits and shoes they loved. I had a ball!
Since I couldn’t take pictures during the fashion show it was important when the show was over that I got out into the lobby before the crowd let out so I could work my magic.
How I Introduced Myself
Hi, my name is Donna and I’m a shoe influencer and would love to take a picture of your shoes because they are beautiful. As they looked me up and down in a second (my style game was on point which got me lots of compliments on my earrings all night) as if to say, who is she? I pushed my business card into their hands which are an eye catcher with its colors and picture of me. I knew a strong card would give me legitimacy. They were like, yes, sure! In a flash I took the picture with them posing with style and laughter. What woman doesn’t want to be told she looks or is wearing something cute. None!
This is what I call sharing the moment. Social media is important but there are many other opportunities that you as an influencer or entrepreneur should consider which means always casting a wide net if you want to be on top of your game.
Attending this fashion show is me casting a wide net!

When I got the gist of this Influencer game, I thought oh hell no! I just found my second act in life. Hosting a blog will allow me to bring you all the goodies that I know about shoes. Giving you style tips, educating you on how to have an eye for shoes, and be a positive critic of the fashion trends.
