The one good thing about expensive shoes is, they will go on sale at some point and time. Shoes are like any other fashion attire. They are seasonal, and seasons do pass unless you live somewhere that is warm or always cold.

Since my taste is Champagne and my budget is beer it’s about shopping smart. Usually, I’m shopping for next Spring’s fashions at the end of this Spring or next Summer’s fashions at the end of this Summer. I know some of you are thinking, isn’t that item out of style for the following year? I say NO. Developing an eye for buying shoes means not buying so many trendy pairs and more styles that live on forever. If you become a trendsetter and not a follower whatever you wear will always be cool because you set the style.

Retailers’ Seasonal Shoe Inventory

Inventory for brands and retailers is based on turn over so when the season passes, they want to get rid of that season’s inventory to bring in the new fashions. In most cases, the mark-up is high so that when brands or retailers sell a pair of shoes for $30 on sale and they were originally $150 they just want to recuperate their cost.

Every now and then I buy a pair of shoes at that Champagne price I talked about because it comes down to size and most websites have a link that will say how many pairs are left in that size. My size 8 ½ is popular and sometimes they go fast. I’m a victim of popularity. At that point I’m deciding how bad do I want the shoes and, am I willing to spend the money right now. This is rare because I have so many pairs of shoes normally, I’m not pressed. Then there are the times that I’m like an addict on drugs. Got To Have Them! That is why I’m trying to convince women to own at least 20-25 pairs of shoes, so you don’t shop pressed, only smart.

Perfect example!

When I read that one of my dream stores, Barneys Madison Avenue store was closing in February, 2020 I knew there would be sales galore. I immediately bought an Amtrak round trip ticket to New York for the last shopping day at Barneys. In and Out!

Little did I know the prices were going to be as low as they were. I purchased a pair of Samuele Failli that cost $720 for $129 and a pair of Gianvito Rossi that cost $945 for $159.

When you add in the cost of the train (roundtrip $108) and my meals I didn’t even spend $500 which was my budget. Those are expensive shoes that didn’t cost $400. I made out like a bandit!

A lot of brands have their own website, but their brands are also sold on other retailers or outlets. This is a plus for us the consumer because you can sometimes find that special pair of shoes for a few dollars less from a retailer or outlet.
