From the beginning, my social media trainer has been preaching, “Don’t talk about money because people don’t like someone telling them how much to spend.” I get it, I am a consumer too and promise to stay in my lane when passing out advice. If my mission is to give you all the JUICY JUICE of how to have an eye for style and fashion when it comes to shoes, you must know the 411 on buying shoes. For those of you who think there is no STRATEGY, get out your notepad and put your thinking cap on.
Perfect example: I went to one of my favorite shopping spots, Nordstrom’s shoe department. With only the intention of looking around to see what is coming out for Spring and Summer and maybe pick up a pair of sandals, $50 at best. As I looked around seeing so many goodies my head was spinning thinking what I was going to buy in the future. I walked over to one table and picked up a pair of snakeskin loafer shoes and it melted in my hand. SO SOFT! It was love at first feel and I immediately turned the shoe over to check out the price and got sticker shock, almost $400. Whoa, we!!! I shouldn’t have been surprised because I always seem to have an eye for expensive shoes. As much as I liked them, I wasn’t spending $400 on a pair of shoes that day. I turned to the salesperson and asked who was AGL, which was the brand, because I had never heard of them. He said they are an Italian brand which made sense for the soft leather. Italian shoes always stand out when it comes to soft leather. The next words out of the salesperson’s mouth were the magic phrase, they are on sale. A light bulb went off and my next question was, how much? With the discount, $187 and this is where your savvy thinking comes in.
Whoa, we!!!! As much as I liked them, I wasn’t spending $400 on a pair of shoes that day.
Shoe Buying Strategy
Whenever you find a pair of shoes that are expensive, your style, and under normal circumstances, you wouldn’t purchase because it’s not in your budget this month, take out your logic calculator. The logic is, I can buy a $400 pair of shoes for $187 and that is called a REAL bargain. That is what I call shopping smart. For those of you who are saying, because it’s expensive doesn’t mean that it’s what I like and should buy, you are correct. There are so many expensive shoes that I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing but if they are your flavor. GO FOR IT!
The other side of this money strategy is I have a great (great means comfortable and I can wear all day) pair of shoes that I bought at a Fort Lauderdale’s Sawgrass Mills Mall that was only $10 and a brand I never heard of that I would have easily paid ten times more for.
These two examples I hope will give you some insight into why it was important for me to talk about money. How to spend your money on shoe shopping is the education and Juicy Juice that I spoke of and that come into play when having an eye for buying good shoes.
Find you a special shoe shopping spot or two and do some research. Start feeling and trying shoes on that may be your style and don’t forget one of the key elements, checking out the price.
